Survotech Limited was established in 2026 by Derek Turnbull, who brings more than 30 years of experience in the construction, inspection and surveying of buildings.

Derek’s career began at the age of 16, when he went straight into the construction industry, initially working in groundworks. He worked alongside an experienced, traditional builder who took great pride in careful preparation and getting the details right — particularly those elements of construction that would never be seen once a building was complete.

This early experience taught Derek an important lesson that has remained central throughout his career: good buildings start with getting the fundamentals right. Attention to detail, quality workmanship and thorough preparation are essential to creating buildings that not only look right, but stand the test of time.

In his mid-twenties, following the completion of a groundworks contract, Derek was given the opportunity to work alongside a heating engineer. This broadened his practical knowledge and gave him valuable experience in domestic heating and bathroom installations. Alongside his work, Derek attended evening classes, developing further skills in plastering and bricklaying.

In his early thirties, Derek returned to education while continuing to work, ultimately gaining a First-Class Honours Degree in Building Surveying. He went on to gain extensive experience across a variety of roles in both social housing and private practice. His career has included managing new-build projects, overseeing maintenance teams and undertaking work for the National Trust.

After more than three decades working within the construction and surveying industries, Derek decided to establish Survotech Limited, specialising in residential surveying. His aim is simple: to provide clients with a thorough, professional and personal service, drawing on his extensive practical and surveying experience to identify issues that may otherwise be overlooked.

Derek takes great pride in his reputation and believes strongly in providing a quality-over-quantity service. He enjoys talking with clients, explaining his findings clearly and sharing his knowledge. He is always happy to answer questions and believes that good communication is just as important as a thorough inspection. Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions most people will make. Derek’s approach is to provide clients with the information and reassurance they need to make that decision with confidence.

Qualifications & Professional Memberships

Derek holds a First-Class Honours Degree in Building Surveying, is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), an Associate Member of RICS (AssocRICS) and is a RICS Registered Valuer.

With decades of hands-on construction experience combined with professional surveying expertise, Derek brings a practical, knowledgeable and meticulous approach to every inspection.
